2007 UK Formula BMW Championship

Surtees heads to Knockhill for Championship decider

by John Surtees

With seven podiums - including a win at Donington from seventh on the grid - Henry is looking forward to revisiting Knockhill for the final rounds of the Formula BMW UK Championship which take place at the challenging 1.3 mile Scottish circuit on 1 and 2 September.

Henry’s only experience at Knockhill was in extremely cold and windy weather last November. But, despite the poor conditions, he recorded a best time of 51.62 seconds - only one-tenth of a second off the lap record. (If he'd been competing, it would have been the fastest lap recorded in that year's championship).

The FBMW UK Championship has been a great experience for Henry in the development of his racing career. It has enabled him to take his first steps into the world of single-seater racing and participate in the unique Formula BMW Educational and Coaching programme. This have provided him, and other young drivers, with training on driving technique and chassis set up, physical fitness and nutrition, as well as sponsorship, media and public relations.

Competing in the 2007 Championship has also given Henry the experience of driving for an independent, professional team. Carlin is one of the most prestigious companies in motorsport. It has an enviable reputation for its performance in a wide range of formulae as well as the development of a number of drivers who have become well known in the world of motorsport.
