F1 Intrigue

I am amazed that the FIA didn’t take the opportunity, when hearing the Renault case recently, to close the book on the McLaren Ferrari investigation.

Formula One should be the pinnacle of our sport where everyone strives, within the rules, to create and develop the finest technology in order to build the most competitive car.

There has always been a movement of personnel between teams and they will take their knowledge. In the case of the McLaren Ferrari affair, it was quite obvious that you had at least two people who had focused upon taking all they knew at a high price to a third party. Somehow the timing didn’t work out and the grand exposure took place.

Motor sport is competing with every other sporting activity for its share of the world audience and the sponsorship pot. We have just had a year when a breath of fresh air came into it in Lewis Hamilton, and we have seen some excellent racing and motor sport being talked about again by the public generally. Yes the teams will have learnt lessons from this whole saga and so will the FIA. But now the teams should be left to get on and compete. We should give no further ammunition to the forces that oppose motor sport by continuing this sorry saga.
