Racing Steps Foundation

I was very saddened at events that took place at Rockingham in one of the driver development programmes I am associated with. It is hard to believe that people would not take the full opportunity of this wonderful programme both on and off track in superbly competitive teams that the Racing Steps Foundation provides. Witness this year the success of Oliver Turvey in Formula 3 and the newly crowned Renault Winter Series Champion James Calado.

The shoot out which had been conducted between 3 drivers had been extremely close and Wayne Boyd had narrowly won, largely because of his racing experience in single seaters neither of which the other 2 contestants had had. But one person's loss is another's opportunity and all of us at Racing Steps will ensure that happens.

RSF AND 2009 FORMULA RENAULT SEAT WINNER BOYD PART COMPANY

The Racing Steps Foundation and Wayne Boyd have parted company in order that advisors to the 18 year-old winner of the 2009 RSF-backed Formula Renault UK seat can "evaluate other offers".

The RSF had agreed to fund the newly-crowned British Formula Ford Champion in Formula Renault starting with the British and Portuguese winter competitions followed by a comprehensive programme of winter testing in readiness for the 2009 UK championship.

The split was agreed yesterday (Friday) when Boyd's advisors notified the Foundation that they were "not yet in a position to decide what Wayne will do in 2009" and wanted time to evaluate "a variety of offers".

Boyd had already competed with RSF-backing in the first two rounds of the Winter Cup at Croft last week and testing yesterday at Rockinghma in preparation for rounds three and four of the competition today.

We have a clear route and procedures mapped out for our drivers that allows them to develop and move on in line with the progress they make on-track," said RSF head of operations Derek Walters.

"Regrettably in the case of Wayne it will not be possible to adhere to this plan and we will be parting company as of today."
