Classic and Sportscar

When the UK's Classic and Sports Car magazine wanted a driver with the rare driving skills to "wring every last ounce of ability" from a collection of 10 of the world's most prized cars, they chose John Surtees.

His task was to track test and evaluate collectors' items, ranging from the 1908 Mercedes 28/32 to the modern day Lotus Elise in order to pronounce one as "the greatest sports car ever made".

The rare gathering also included a Bugatti Type 35B, an Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 B, a Mercedes-Benz 300SL, a Ferrari 250GT SWB, a Mini Cooper S, a Jaguar E-Type 4.2, a Porsche 911 2.7RS, and a Lamborghini Miura.

According to Classic &Sports Car, John has "that rarest of all attributes, an instinctive affinity with whatever machinery he is riding or driving."

His verdict? The Porsche 911.
