Goodwood Festival of Speed and Revival Meeting

When Lord March took the first tentative steps to reintroduce "serious motorsport" to Goodwood he called on motor racing heroes Stirling Moss and John Surtees to lend a hand.

They took on the role of joint Patrons for the inaugural 1993 Goodwood Festival of Speed - an event which is now well established as the world's most popular historic motorsports meeting.

Over the years since its inception, John has assisted Lord March to bring back to Goodwood the 'golden era' of motorsport. John's immense network of contacts has enabled the event to attract many of the world's most famous and feted historic two and four wheel racing machines…and many of the legendary riders and drivers who competed on and in them.

Since 1993 John has demonstrated, with customary verve, the pre and post-war Mercedes, Honda and Ferrari GP cars up the famous Goodwood hillclimb, as well as Vincent, Norton, MV Agusta and BMW Grand Prix motorcycles.

His network and driving skills have also been used by Lord March to enhance and promote the September Goodwood Revival Meetings, the first of which was held on the newly restored and re-opened Sussex circuit in 1998.

Since then John has thrilled the crowds with spectacular drives in 250 GTO and 275LM Ferraris in the revived Tourist Trophy races.

His contribution to motorsport has been recognised at the event too with a celebratory motorcycle and car display which traced his illustrious career.
